Hi! Was out bloghopping. Nice journal!!
It’s been unseasonably warm (which ends tonight) so the lake has been virtually ice free for the last couple of days. Fishermen have been out in boats. But last night it got pretty cold, covering the lake with an even, if thin, layer of ice. I guess these guys didn’t get the memo.

I looked out and saw a jagged line running across the lake, which usually only happens when wind causes an ice-shift. But there wasn’t any wind. Then I realized what had happened – these three guys in a little tiny boat had apparently arrived to find the lake frozen and decided to launch anyway. They cut a path through the thin ice, which is way harder than it sounds – even a half-inch of ice is pretty heavy when it’s a mile across – then circled to make themselves a little pool in which to fish.
There’s a blizzard coming – tonight and tomorrow I expect about a foot of snow. This could be the storm I’ve been waiting for—we’ve had a couple of big ones, but it either warmed up too fast or turned to freezing rain, which makes the snow crunchy. I want fluffy! I want to roll in it like a little kid, and make a snowman and throw snowballs.. It’s supposed to stay cold for a few days after the storm, so I could actually be getting the winter wonderland I’ve been craving. And I seem to finally be over the flu, so I’m ready.
